CMC E-News 21 April 2010 Print E-mail

Well our 1st race on a new course this year did have a few minor teething problems, with some riders not taking careful note of the route and going the wrong way! Yours truly included! Luckily this did not lead to any accidents. Overall, comments that have come back to me, indicate that this course is a good one and a fair test for all types of riders.
A reminder that if you do go off course that it is not the marshalls or lack of to blame, but you the rider. Any complaints should be directed in a polite manner to a committee member. Abuse of us and or our volunteers is not acceptable in any form.

Marshalls
As a club we do not ask a lot of our members except that you do your turn at marshalling. We aim to give plenty of notice of when this is due through this e-news and will start to put up a printed list at races from now on so that you can check. We have instances where people give us little or no notice of their intention to not marshall, having made no effort to organise a replacement as per club rules. Please it is incumbent on us all to check your email for these sort of things and do your bit for us all.

National Club Champs
We have a good crew of some 80 riders going down to these championships and I am sure you all join with me in wishing them all well.
For those going down a reminder to get your uniform sorted out, especially shorts which must be plain black unless you have a sponsor listed on your license.
start lists for the road races and ITT events can be downloaded here.

Waterfront TT
You may have heard that Avanti Plus had announced they were ceasing to run the Saturday morning waterfront Time Trials on Tamaki Drive.  These have resumed, with a 7am start for the first rider as usual, with the event now being run by the newly created Auckland Central Cycling Club.  (see www.aucklandcentralcycling.org.nz )

There are some refinements intended in the future in terms of how the waterfront time trial might operate, but key aspects like the start / turnaround / finish will remain unchanged and for now entry cost will still be $5 and arrangements will continue in the successful format as in the past.  Just be outside Mikano Restaurant at Mechanics Bay from around 6:20am onwards to register and pay the $5 entry fee.

The only real change is that to enter you now either send an email with “TT entry” & your name to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it or send a text to 021 223 4741.

Auckland Central Cycling will operate the time trial each week at this stage, so up until Nationals at the end of April those riders planning to race the Time Trial have the chance for a regular hit out on Tamaki Drive.  Results for the last couple of weeks are already on their web site, under news.

Thanks for your time to read this. See you at Ardmore for the Gallipoli Cup
Stay safe & upright
