STARTING TIMES -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Starting time is 2pm for the Open grade (unless otherwise specified in the program) - 40+others and juniors follow on after this.
WARMING UP -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In fairness to other riders/officials - please warm up away from the path of the race.
HELMETS -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hard shell helmets are compulsory – these must comply with UCI standards and the N.Z. cycle helmets standards specification.
JUNIOR GEARING -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bike NZ gearing rules apply to all CMC club racing. Gear checks are made periodically before club races. Gearing will be checked before all Open & Championship races.
RACE ETIQUETTE -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- All competitors are to take their fair share of laps within their bunch during the whole duration of the race i.e. - NO SITTING ON!!
No rider may interfere with another race or sit on another rider / bunch from another race.
All riders must take extreme care when passing slower riders or another race - pass only on the Right Hand side and acknowledge your presence i.e. – “passing on your right.”
Automatic relegation or disqualification may result from failing to comply with the above – this is at the discretion of the race committee.
NEW RIDERS – YOUR FIRST RACE If you are new to bunch riding / racing please make this known to a race official when signing on or to the starter. We will endeavor to have an experienced rider from your grade give you some guidelines on race etiquette. We hope this will contribute to making your first race an enjoyable experience.
HANDICAP RACE PROTOCAL A handicap race is essentially a team time trial. The riders are seeded in bunches dependent on their previous race performances; the slowest riders start first and the fastest riders start last. Look on a handicap race as a chance to gain some extra fitness, as a handicap race will normally be more intense than a mass start. The handicapper’s ultimate race would be for the slowest bunch to be caught by the fastest bunch a couple of hundred meters from the finish line
Pointers on how to ride a handicap race: Ride to the ability of your bunch i.e. if you are the strongest in your bunch don’t ride off the front. Keep your speed to the bunch average speed and take a longer turn on the front. Remember; over a 60km race a bunch of riders will be faster than a rider on there own! Every rider takes a turn on the front – no sitting on. Rotate smoothly and keep your time on the front to only 20 / 30 seconds max. When you go to the front keep your speed the same as the bunch speed, it is only your effort that needs to increase as you are breaking the wind – don’t surge to the front as this creates a gap for the rider behind you fill. When you catch another bunch integrate their riders into your bunch’s lapping rotation. If your bunch is caught by a bunch that started behind you there obviously will be stronger riders in there but join their rotation. But remember you are still expected to do your share of the work – it is still essentially a team time trial situation until your bunch reaches the front of the race. When your bunch reaches the front of the race and you are a km or so from the finish, only then can you start to think of your individual chance of success.
COMPLAINTS - PROTESTS ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NO verbal approach to the handicapper or any of the officials is allowed. All initial complaints / protests must be initially made to your Club Captain, followed by a written statement describing the event in full. Failure to adhere to the above procedure may result in disqualification – please remember these people are giving up their time to run your race! Foul language will not be tolerated and if it is deemed inappropriate can result in disqualification from the race. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
THE CLUB RESERVES THE RIGHT TO REFUSE ANY RACE ENTRY
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
40+ & OTHERS / Veterans - GRADE -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Riders may change from Open to the 40+ grade or 40+ to Open on or before 1st July. (One change only per season or by the discretion of the race committee)
RACE DAYS -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- All riders have to sign on and collect their numbers at least 20 minutes before starting time. Please return your race number to the sign on table at the completion of the race.
CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A rider must be a current financial member of the Counties Manukau Cycling Club and be a Bike NZ registered rider and have paid a club & centre fee to be eligible to ride in Club Championship events.
RACE DAY CUPS AND PRIZES i.e. race sponsors prizes -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- These go to the first registered Counties Manukau rider holding a current licence.
PRIZE MONEY -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The winner or his/her nominated substitute must collect all prize money on the day of the race. If you do not have a nominated substitute on race day your prize money will be returned to club funds.
A rider has to hold a current Bike NZ licence before being able to claim any prize money. If you are an unlicensed rider the prize money will go towards your licence fee.
Any outstanding licence fees, fines & race entry fees will be deducted from any prize money a rider may win.
The amount of prize money allocated to each race is dependent on the number of entries and is at the discretion of the race day officials.
SEASON RACE FORMAT – Winter & Spring Series – Grade Season Points Trophy Within the normal club-racing program there is also a series of races that are classified as the Winter & Spring Race Series.
The Winter (June > August) and Spring (August > September) races that are part of each series are marked in the program as: Winter Series @ Spring Series.
Points will be allocated to the different races that make up the Winter and Spring Series of races. The points will be allocated to each grade ie A grade, B grade etc. The highest point scorers for each grade will receive an overall prize money payout at the end of the series in addition to what is paid out as weekly prize money.
Races that are not part of a series will still have prize money for that particular race. The prize money payable is dependent on the number of entries and is at the discretion of the race day officials.
The Season Points system to decide the Season Points Trophy winners for each grade at the end of the season will continue as in previous seasons. All club road races will count for points (including Winter & Spring Series races). In mass start races a point is allocated for both starting and finishing each race. In a handicap race points are allocated for you’re over all race placing plus a point for both starting and finishing.
